A fine example of inlaid metalwork to come from the Mamluk dynasty was this silver inlaid copper foliate plate featuring a Bismillah design. Meticulously hand carved, then inlaid in silver, the fabrication of this type of metalwork is a dying art. I was very lucky to come across this turn of the century Mamluk revival inlaid plate. The piece is overall in good condition, considering it's age. There has never been a hanging loop on this piece, but it has three half dome feet on the bottom, and it does not appear to be made for the tourist trade. Measuring 11" across and weighing nearly 2 pounds, this is a very substantial and well crafted plate with a substantial amount of silver worked into it. |
