| Intricately carved Syrian/Egyptian Lamp. Most likely used in a Synagogue for use as the Ner Tamid Eternal Light. Estimated to be from Mid to Late 19th c. The top is incised with mythical beasts. The fretwork which holds it together have rooster and crescent moon screw tops. There is a band of Hebrew lettering (most likely an acronym of a blessing) then a band of semi medallions with more mythical beasts. Below are six lozenge shaped windows. The lower section features pyramids, the sphinx and the spies Moses sent into Israel. Scenes in remembrance of the days in Slavery in Egypt, and the Exodus. The font at the bottom, chains and a few original fittings are missing. | ||
