| If this Scribes case could talk, oh what tales it would tell. Until this century, many people couldn't read or write, but still needed contracts, deeds and other documents drawn up. For many, the travelling scribe was every bit as valued as a lawyer or solicitor. This piece has is an exceptionally simple yet elegant piece, most likely from Turkey. A 19th century piece, it is in fine condition considering it's age. The pencase looks brassier in the photo than in person. There are some areas where the silvering has worn away. This is a little over 7" long, the attached inkpot is approximately 1 1/4" square.and weighs a little over 1/2 pound. This appears to be cast, then etched. A very substantial piece, it weigh over half a pound! Scribes used to tuck these cases into their belts, and the inkpots kept them from slipping through. A unique and historical item for your desk, or collection. | ||
