Intricately carved Mosque lamp from Syria. This qandeel features six arched windows. Between each window is a turned baluster type fretwork with chickens and turned knob finials. This is suspended by three chains that meet at the top. The font is missing, but doesn't detract from the esthetics of this piece. The top section is segmented into six design panels alternating between trefoil and spiderweb designs above four alternating cartouches with Islamic calligraphy, and foliate medallions. The lower section has eight panels alternating between cartouches of foliate, spiderweb, and Islamic script, with the rest of it in a spiderweb design. This has a chicken finial with a hole that a cord can be threaded through for electrification, which I believe is not original to this piece. The fineness of the carving is unusual and exceptional. There is some of the original gilding intact. This has the best quality of craftsmanship of any Syrian piece I've had in over 35 years of collecting. This unique piece measures 14" tall and 18" to the top of the chain, and 6" in diameter, and weighs nearly 3 pounds.

19th century Mamluk Revival Cairoware inlaid casket or box. It was made for keeping tobacco, the original cedar wood lining missing. Unlike the usual rectangular boxes of this type, the curves edges require exceptional skill to fabricate. This box has an Islamic Script cartouche on the front with foliate heart medallions on the ends. Two trefoil brackets encircle the lid which features a large, foliate central medallion. The silver and some copper inlays have some tooling which shows high quality workmanship as does the endless knot vertical panels on the curved sections of the box. There is also a chain panel across the back with chain twist designs framing the panel. The casket measures 5.25" long, by 3" deep and 2.5" tall. and weighs nearly a pound. It has a moderate patina, and the piece is overall in good condition, with all inlays tight and intact, unusual cosidering it's age.

Syrian brass pierced lamp made about 1890. The onion dome top features four pierced cartouches alternating with pierced foliate semi medallions. Two of the cartouches feature Islamic script, and the other two feature a spider web pattern. It is topped with a carved finial. This shape is popular throughout the Middle East and North Africa. it originally had a glass tube containing a wax candle held by a fitting that fit into the bottom. The three holes near the bottom edge are from the original chain that was used for hanging it, and for opening the lamp to light it or change the candle.
This unique piece measures 6.75" tall by 4.25" across and weighs a little under a half pound.
