$1200.00

Intricately carved Mosque lamp from Syria. This qandeel features six arched windows. Between each window is a turned baluster type fretwork with chickens and turned knob finials. This is suspended by three chains that meet at the top. The font is missing, but doesn't detract from the esthetics of this piece. The top section is segmented into six design panels alternating between trefoil and spiderweb designs above four alternating cartouches with Islamic calligraphy, and foliate medallions. The lower section has eight panels alternating between cartouches of foliate, spiderweb, and Islamic script, with the rest of it in a spiderweb design. This has a chicken finial with a hole that a cord can be threaded through for electrification, which I believe is not original to this piece. The fineness of the carving is unusual and exceptional. There is some of the original gilding intact. This has the best quality of craftsmanship of any Syrian piece I've had in over 35 years of collecting. This unique piece measures 14" tall and 18" to the top of the chain, and 6" in diameter, and weighs nearly 3 pounds.

The silver and some copper inlays have some tooling which shows high quality workmanship as does the endless knot vertical panels on the curved sections of the box.
