Intricately carved Mosque lamp from Syria. This features six arched windows. Between the windows is turned baluster fretwork with chickens and turned knob finials. This is suspended by three chains that meet at the top. The font is missing, but doesn't detract from the esthetics of this piece. The top section is segmented into six design panels alternating between trefoil and spiderweb designs above four alternating cartouches with Islamic calligraphy, and foliate medallions. The lower section has eight panels alternating between cartouches of foliate, spiderweb, and Islamic script, with the rest of it in a spiderweb design. This has a chicken finial with a hole that a cord can be threaded through for electrification, which I believe might not be original to this piece. The fineness of the carving is unusual and exceptional. There is some of the original gilding intact. This has the best quality of craftsmanship of any Syrian piece I've had in over 20 years of collecting. This unique piece measures 14" tall and 18" to the top of the chain, and 6" in diameter, and weighs nearly 3 pounds.

19th century Mamluk Revival Cairoware inlaid casket or box. It was made for keeping tobacco, the original cedar wood lining missing. Unlike the usual rectangular boxes of this type, the curves edges require exceptional skill to fabricate. This box has an Islamic Script cartouche on the front with foliate heart medallions on the ends. Two trefoil brackets encircle the lid which features a large, foliate central medallion. The silver and some copper inlays have some tooling which shows high quality workmanship as does the endless knot vertical panels on the curved sections of the box. There is also a chain panel across the back with chain twist designs framing the panel. The casket measures 5.25" long, by 3" deep and 2.5" tall. and weighs nearly a pound. It has a moderate patina, and the piece is overall in good condition, with all inlays tight and intact, unusual cosidering it's age.

Bedouin style dallah, finjan, ibrik,or coffee pot. Solid brass Inlaid with silver and copper from Syria or Turkey, or possibly Egypt. This features a cartouche with Islamic calligraphy on either side, and a trefoil medallion below the spout. There are foliate semi medallions on the neck as well as on the lid. Inlaid chains divide the belly from the neck and accent the edges of the lid. It has been tinned inside making it safe for liquid consumption. The spout has a slight separation from the body near the top. It measures 9" tall by 4.25" in diameter, with a spread of 7" from handle to spout, and weighs one pound five ounces. There is an old tradition, I'm told, the long spout was designed to hold a hair from a camel's tail which is believed to purify the syrupy coffee as it is poured into tiny china cups.

Syrian brass pierced lamp made about 1890. The onion dome top features four pierced cartouches alternating with pierced foliate semi medallions. Two of the cartouches feature Islamic script, and the other two feature a spider web pattern. It is topped with a carved finial. This shape is popular throughout the Middle East and North Africa. it originally had a glass tube containing a wax candle held by a fitting that fit into the bottom. The three holes near the bottom edge are from the original chain that was used for hanging it, and for opening the lamp to light it or change the candle.
This unique piece measures 6.75" tall by 4.25" across and weighs a little under a half pound.

Middle Eastern or North African hand of Fatimah cast brass doorknocker. This appears to be made by the sand cast method. The finish is a little rough from manufacture, and it shows wear where the ball hits the striker. Most of the time, these are found as two separate pieces that are mounted separately to the door. This is a much rarer one-piece design. It has four screw holes and is ready to mount. It measures 4.75" long by 3" across, by 2" deep, and weighs a little under a pound.

Throughout the Islamic world, it is a tradition to greet road-weary travelers and guests with a refreshing sprinkle of rosewater or orange blossom water. This charming blue Moroccan glass and embossed white brass bottle was made for this purpose, although I have seen people buy them for use as incense burners. Standing nearly 8 1/2" tall and measuring 2.75 " across, this unique piece is filled with astounding charm. The bottle weighs 1/2 pound before packing.
